OSWEGO, NY - The Lakers were back in action Saturday in the championship game of the Max Ziel Tournament in Laker Hall. They took on the Amherst College Mammoths in their toughest challenge yet this season.
THE BASICS
Oswego 40 (1-2, 0-0 SUNYAC)
Amherst 51 (2-0, 0-0 NESCAC)
Max Ziel Gymnasium, Oswego, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers' first quarter was unlike the previous day. They struggled on the offensive end only scoring 5 points in the first 10 minutes. They shot 2-12 from the field while going 0-6 from three-point land. The Mammoths on the other hand were able to build themselves a 16-5 lead after one.
The offense picked up for the Lakers in the second scoring 11 points to Amherst's 10. Unfortunately, this is when turnovers began to plague the Lakers and stunt any momentum that they would gain. Despite some last second opportunities, the Lakers would go into half time trailing the Mammoths by ten, 26-16.
The second half played out much like the second quarter. The Lakers were able to keep pace with Amherst offensively but were unable to get stops on the other end. Offensively, the Lakers were led by
Shania Iglesias with 12 points and
Macey DeOrdio with 15 points. Oswego shot a meager 5% from three only able to knock down 1 of 19 on the day along with 11-17 from the free throw line.
Ultimately, the Lakers fell in the tournament championship to Amherst, 51-40.
Shania Iglesias was named to the all-tournament team.
