Oswego XC Celebrating after SUNYAC championships

Cross Country Daniel O'Neill

Recapping a Historic Weekend and Year for Oswego XC

This past weekend the Lakers Hosted the SUNYAC Cross Country championships. With the season coming to a close and only a few more chances left. The Lakers looked to finish a historic season off. You can read more about our athletes' individual performance here. Senior Faith Coyle's performance was one of her best of the season as she secured a podium spot coming in 3rd- with a 24:11.2. This marks the best individual placing for a Laker at this event since Susan McWilliam's second-place finish at the 2003 SUNYAC Championship. This performance ultimately secured her a spot on the first team all-conference. This is the first time a Laker has earned this honor in 20 years.

Freshmen Noah Melita's also had an excellent performance where he placed 7th - 27:17.2. His efforts earned him a spot on the second team all-conference, breaking a seven-year drought for the Lakers for such honors. His achievement brought excitement and pride to the whole team, knowing they had broken the streak and set a new benchmark.

The final results of the championships emphasize what a great year for the Lakers cross country team it was . Another drought broken was the Lakers women's Cross country team placing fourth in the team standings which is their best finish in over two decades as well. We want to congratulate the entire Laker Cross country team on an amazing season and we are looking forward to the continued strides that the program will make in seasons to come.
