HOW IT HAPPENED
The start of the game saw relatively even back-and-forth play with limited scoring opportunities on both sides. Plattsburgh scored the first goal of the game, which was a wrist shot during their power-play. Just a minute later the Lakers missed a key opportunity for a close five-hole goal. Oswego tied things up when
Drake Semrad beat the goalie glove side with a snapshot goal from the left (assisted by
Cam Symons and Grimshaw). Flack took a breakaway chance down the left side and edged up the score with goal number two while it was 4v4 on the ice. He was assisted by
Connor Gatto. Overall, Oswego had the upper hand as they were superior in shots on goal 12-5.
Many scoring opportunities the Lakers had at the beginning of the second period were just shy of the net. With 8:55 left in the period, a close shot by Sleeth ricocheted off the Cardinal's crossbar. The score remained 2-1 at the end of the period.
At 5:49 into the final period of the game, Plattsburgh was able to even out the score with a cross crease one-timer goal. With only 4:32 left on the clock,
AJ Ryan scored a wrist shot goal (assisted by Warmuth) to the top of the net on the goalie's glove side to push Oswego ahead 3-2. Hungry for more, and under a minute later,
Matt McQuade similarly scored with a wrist shot to the goalie's glove side. He was assisted by Francis to make the score 4-2. The Cardinals managed to squeak in a five-hole goal to add one of their own with a little over two minutes left on the clock. The Plattsburgh efforts were not enough as Oswego took their second win of the weekend 4-3.
