Lakers Battle the Hartwick Hawks in Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Oswego Men's Lacrosse kicked off their season on the road this afternoon at Hartwick College of the Empire Eight Conference. After a tight first quarter the Lakers battled back when the Hawks grabbed a lead but ultimately fell 11-10 on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED  

     The Lakers struck first when just 44 seconds in, Connor Aspinall scored unassisted to give Oswego a 1-0 lead. Hartwick answered by scoring three straight of their own but Liam Sexton and Corey O'Connor (assist to Trey Jones) tied the game back up for the Lakers before the end of the first quarter at three goals a piece. In the second, Hartwick took it to the Oswego defense scoring six goals to only two from Oswego. Those goals came from Connor Aspinall and Garrett Elleston assisted by Logan Prescott. The Lakers were down 9-5 at the half.

          The third quarter saw Oswego's Trey Jones narrowing the margin with a goal, signaling their determination to mount a comeback. In the final quarter, the game reached its climax as Corey O'Connor and Emmett Starowizc scored consecutive goals, equalizing the score at 9-9. The tension was palpable as both teams vied for control of the match. In the closing minutes, Hartwick took control, with Garrett Frost securing a crucial goal to reclaim the lead at 10-9. With the clock ticking down second by second, Hartwick's Seth Bello assisted Garrett Frost in another goal, solidifying their lead at 11-9. However, Oswego refused to concede defeat, as Liam Sexton scored a late goal in the dying moments of the game, bringing the score to a narrow 11-10.

Whats Next

The Lakers will head to Skidmore College March 2nd for another non conference match-up.
