Lakers Take Down The Bears In Overtime

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Oswego State Women's Basketball (12-8, 8-6 SUNYAC) continued their road trip Saturday when they took on the Potsdam Bears (7-13, 3-11 SUNYAC) in another SUNYAC match-up.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Oswego 63 (12-8, 8-6 SUNYAC), Potsdam 58 (7-13, 3-11 SUNYAC)
Location: Potsdam, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Oswego offense took a minute to get going only shooting 35% from the field and 0% from three in the first quarter. After one, they trailed the Bears by two. In the second, the Lakers opened with back-to-back baskets thanks to a Karleigh Leo three and a Giavanna White-Principio layup. Leo hit multiple threes in the second quarter and the Laker offense was also boosted by Macey DeOrdio with a three of her own. As a team, the shooting picked up significantly and Oswego outscored the Bears by three in the second quarter giving them a one-point lead at halftime.

The Bears came out with energy in the second half taking a five-point lead over the Lakers. The Potsdam run was stopped by a layup from Sydney Hoefs with three minutes to go in the third. The Bears did not let up while the Lakers got out on the fast break cutting the deficit to four before the start of the fourth. After Oswego forced the Bears into five big turnovers in the fourth, the Lakers had an opportunity down the stretch to take the lead. Macey DeOrdio hit a big three-pointer to tie the game up at 52 with 12 seconds left. Oswego then secured a defensive stop and Zhane Holmes got off a last-second shot, but it was not able to fall, and the two teams continued to overtime.

In overtime, once again it was Macey DeOrdio who hit two late free throws to give the Lakers a three-point lead with six seconds remaining. The Oswego defense forced a final turnover from the Bears and with two more free throws from DeORdio, the Lakers won another SUNYAC match-up.
