Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Lakers Sweep Mustangs With Another 3-1 Win

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Women's Hockey returned home this afternoon to host the second contest of their two-game series against the Morrisville Mustangs. An early five-hole goal from the Mustangs would have the Lakers chasing for majority of the game. Tessa Mucha tied the game up in the 3rd period and gave the Lakers the necessary offensive momentum to run away with a 3-1 win at home, completing a weekend sweep over Morrisville.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 3 (10-9-1, 8-4-1 SUNYAC), Morrisville 1(9-12-0, 4-10-0 SUNYAC)
Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena | Oswego, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

From the puck drop, the Lakers were caught off guard by a seemingly refreshed Morrisville squad. After the opening minutes of play, the game turned in Morrisville's favor as Oswego found themselves stuck in their defensive zone. Mustang forward Hailee Easson found a way to put one through the legs of Junior net-minder Lexi Levy 8:05 into the first, giving Morrisville an early 1-0 lead. Oswego would find their rhythm and settle in on offense towards the end of the period but would still come up empty-handed despite 2 quality power play opportunities.

As the second period opened, the Lakers would find themselves on yet another power play but were unable to maintain possession in the offensive end of the ice. The back-and-forth nature of last night's game would persist throughout the 2nd period of today's contest as both teams would trade zone time and take turns in the penalty box. The period would end with the scoreline standing at 1-0.

As the final frame of play got underway, Oswego was desperate to put one in. Junior Tessa Mucha got to work in front of the Mustang net, tipping Leah Coley's shot from the point behind Morrisville goalie Maggie Jones 2:42 into the third period. Mucha's goal would give Oswego a much-needed offensive spark, as Kensie Malone would break the 1-1 tie with a beautiful one-timer on the power play at the 9:25 mark. Mackenzie Hull wasted no time netting the third and last goal of the night for the Lakers, less than a minute later at 10:08. Oswego would close out the third period with a 3-1 win over the Mustangs and the weekend with 4 SUNYAC points.
