Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lakers Dominate the Utica Pioneers at Home

Oswego, N.Y. - The Oswego State Men's Lacrosse team hosted the Utica Pioneers for a riveting match, navigating through blustery winds and determined opposition.

THE BASICS - Final score: Oswego 13, Utica 4

Location: Laker Turf Stadium | Oswego State | Oswego, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers won the faceoff to start the game, but the Pioneers blocked a shot and took the ball down the field to score their first goal of the quarter. As the wind picks up and the temperature drops, both teams struggle to complete crucial passes needed to score. With 5 minutes left in the quarter, Emmett Starowizc assisted Connor Aspinall in a goal to put the Lakers on the board. The teams trade goals leaving the score 2-2 with three minutes left in the quarter. For his second goal of the game, Connor Aspinall finds the back of the net thirteen minutes in. Oswego State Leads 4-2 after Emmett Starowizc scores unassisted to close out the first quarter.

Oswego starts the scoring in the second quarter as Max Brodman buries the ball in the back of the net with ten minutes left to go. Utica puts up a strong defense, but that doesn't stop the Lakers as Hayden Coney breaks through the defense and puts it past the goalie for their sixth goal of the game. A defensive standoff between the Lakers and Pioneers marks the end of the half as they fight to maintain their positions.

The Utica Pioneers open the scoring for the second half, but the Oswego Lakers quickly respond with a goal of their own. Following Garrett Elston's goal, Liam Sexton capitalizes on a solo opportunity and scores unassisted, the score now reading 8-3 in favor of Oswego. So far, the third quarter has been characterized by Oswego's complete dominance in possession, as they continuously apply pressure on the opposing defense, firing shot after shot. A turnover by Utica leads to another goal for the Lakers, scored by Max Brodman for his third goal of the game. With the final seconds ticking away, the shot count highlights Oswego's offensive prowess, with 17 shots compared to Utica's limited 5 attempts.

Two minutes into the last quarter, Liam Sexton scores again, leading the Lakers 11-4. The high winds are heavily affecting Utica's game, as they fail to find their rhythm and execute plays. At the same time, Oswego thrives, adapting to the conditions, once again finding the net for another goal pushing the Lakers further ahead as they lead by 8 goals. With five minutes left in the game, Trey Jones rips a shot into the goal. Seamus Hand shuts out the Pioneers for the entire fourth quarter, ending the game 13-4.
