Lakers Open Conference Play With a Win Over the Golden Eagles

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego Men's Lacrosse team hosted the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles this afternoon for their first conference game of the season. The battle of the green and gold saw back and forth play until Oswego took the lead for good after scoring three goals in the third quarter. The Lakers won their first conference game of the season 9-5.
THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 9 (4-3, 1-0 SUNYAC), Brockport 5 (1-6, 0-1 SUNYAC)
Location: SUNY Oswego | Laker Turf Stadium | Oswego, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego won the opening face off which pushed them to take over Brockport territory for the initial minutes of the game. An Oswego turnover sent the Golden Eagles flying, and they scored the first goal of the game at 9:00. Jason Dongelewic then tied up the game with a shot to the bottom of the net. With 41 seconds left on the clock, a Brockport shot to the left side of the goal found the back of the net to one up Oswego.

Corey O'Connor got things started for Oswego in the second, netting one to the top left to match Brockport 2-2. With the Lakers again in the Golden Eagles territory, a quick passing play from O'Connor to Connor Aspinall gave Oswego the slight edge. The teams continued to match pace with each other, but at the 4:00 mark Brockport scored despite a two on one battle. With 13 seconds left, goalie Seamus Hand made a key save to prevent Brockport from taking the lead into halftime.

Logan Prescott won the face off to start the second half. He rushed the right side to the field and scored six seconds into play. To push their lead even further, Emmett Starowizc passed to Liam Sexton for an underhand shot to the bottom of the goal, making the score 5-3. Maintaining that momentum, Garrett Elston made a diving shot at the goal crease to add to the Lakers tally. Brockport, now trying to play catch up, scored, making it a 6-4 game. Brockport received a penalty for slashing, but Oswego could not capitalize on the extra man opportunity.

In the final quarter, Oswego capitalized on a Brockport penalty when Hayden Coney shot the seventh Laker goal with 11:29 left in the game. Brockport attempts came too close for comfort with one shot hitting the post. Jackson Cummings picked up a ground ball and passed to Elston who rushed the goalie for goal number eight. Aspinall scored again for Oswego, and in the Golden Eagles final attempts they scored just a minute later. The game concluded with a final score of 9-5.
