Lakers Take Two From The Pioneers This Afternoon

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Baseball team hosted the Pioneers of Alfred State College. The Lakers trailed going into the third inning of the first game, but scored four runs to take the lead. They bested the Pioneers 5-4 on a walk off single. In game two, Oswego held onto an early lead and ran away with the game after scoring six runs in the fourth to take the win 11-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Game 1:

With a runner on third and two outs in the first, Alfred scored the first run of the game. Oswego left two runners stranded to end the inning. 

Alfred had the bases loaded and snuck in another run following a sacrifice fly to right field. 

In the third,Greg Carullo hit a double to the left field fence to start for the Lakers. Jelani Hamer hit a single to left field to bring in Oswego's first run. Just after, Owen Parliament hit a homerun to tie up the game. Tishawn Featherstone hit a single, advanced to second then third, and was brought in by a single from Trey McGowan. With two outs, Jacob Levine was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, but were left stranded as Alfred got their third out. At the end of the third the score was 4-3. 

Alfred brought in their fourth run from a single to tie up the game again in the fifth inning. With two outs and runners on second and third, Oswego got their third out to prevent Alfred from taking the lead. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Parliament hit a double to right field and was then brought in by a walk off single from Featherstone to end the game with a 5-4 win.

Game 2: 

In the second, Featherstone singled to second base, advanced to second on a passed ball, advanced to third after a ground out, and scored the first run on a passed ball in the second inning. This put the Lakers on top for an early lead.

In the top of the third, Alfred had runners on first and second. The runners both stole and the lead runner made it home after an error to tie up the game. In the bottom of the inning, Joe McLaughlin got hit by a pitch, stole second, and advanced to third from an infield error. Likewise McGowan got hit by a pitch and then stole second. Hamer hit a single which brought in two runs, making the score 3-1. 

In the fourth, Felix De Asa Delacruz bunted to get on first and bases were loaded. Anthony Barone singled to right field to bring in a run. McLaughlin then reached second on an error to bring in two runs. Oswego brought in an additional three runs to make the score 9-1 at the end of the fourth. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Blake VanDreason hit a double to left field and later advanced to third. He was brought in by Barone who hit a single through the right side. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Dylan Rosenberg reached first on an infield error, advanced to second on a passed ball, then advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch. This brought the Lakers up 11-1 to take the victory.

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Lakers will travel to Plattsburgh State to take on the Cardinals on April 5 with a start time of 3 p.m.
