HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:

In game one, Jacob Sanders was on the mound for the Lakers. On the first play of the game Brian Brezosky made a diving catch in left field for the first out. Sanders followed that up with back-to-back strike outs in the top of the first. In the top of the second it was Trey McGowan's turn to make a great defensive play ranging all the way to the right field line to grab a pop up.

The Red Dragons scored first in the top of the fourth after stringing a few hits together with no outs. Sanders shut the Cortland offense down with three straight strike outs to keep the Cortland lead at 1-0. On the base paths, the Lakers were caught stealing twice in four innings making it difficult to produce a run.

Cortland led off the top of the fifth with a home run making it a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning The Red Dragons struck again with a two-run home run building a 4-0 lead over the Lakers.

In the bottom of the fifth, CJ McCarthy singled up the middle followed by a single from Daniel Winchester putting runners at first and third with two outs. Winchester advanced on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. A diving play at shortstop unfortunately ended the inning for the Lakers leaving two stranded. The Lakers had a chance to score again in the bottom of the sixth, but the rally ended with a strikeout.

Heading into the bottom of the 8th, the Lakers trailed 5-0. Jelani Hamer started the inning off with a solo home run cutting the lead to four. CJ McCarthy followed that up with a solo home run of his own.

Nick Cody came in relief for Sanders in the 7th inning allowing one run on two hits in three innings of work.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Lakers had three outs left to cut into the Red Dragons' three run lead. The Lakers recorded one hit in the bottom of the inning but could not overcome the deficit and fell in game one, 5-2.

Game 2:

The Lakers started off game two with back-to-back hits bringing Hamer to plate with two on and no one out. Oswego was able to score on a wild pitch taking a 1-0 lead into the second inning.

Cortland wasted no time tying the game up with a lead-off home run in the second inning. In the bottom of the inning, it was Joe McLaughlin for the Lakers who mashed a solo home run of his own giving the Lakers the lead once again.

Cortland grabbed the lead again in the third but a home run from Owen Parliament knotted the game up at 3 after three innings. In the fifth Cortland snuck across a one run lead and Oswego threatened in the bottom of the frame but entered the 6th inning down 4-3.

Jake Danyluk started the game for Oswego and was relieved by Sean Dertinger.

In the seventh, Hamer reached first on an error, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Parliament walked right after him. That brought up Jacob Levine who crushed a three-run home run to left field giving the Lakers a 6-5 lead.

Richie Paul came in to pitch for the Lakers in the 8th and the Red Dragons took the lead right back scoring three runs on four hits.

The Cortland 9-6 lead held for the final two innings handing the Lakers their second loss of the day.
