Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lakers fall to Conference Leading Cortland

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego Men's Lacrosse team hosted the No. 1 seeded Cortland Red Dragons. The Lakers scored the first goal of the game but Cortland quickly found offensive momentum and never hinted at letting up. Cortland took the 20-6 win over Oswego to remain undefeated in SUNYAC play.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 6 (9-5, 4-2 SUNYAC), Cortland 20 (10-4, 6-0 SUNYAC)

Location: Laker Turf Field | SUNY Oswego | Oswego, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers claimed the first goal of the game as Emmett Starowizc ripped a quick shot but nearly 20 seconds later Cortland retaliated with one of their own to tie up the game. Oswego upheld a strong defensive stance against the Red Dragons, with Seamus Hand making some crucial saves. A Cortland shot to the left side of the post was good to take back the lead. That goal was supplemented with another at the 6:12 mark to bring Cortland's score up 3-1. The Lakers later took possession and had two solid shots but they were not able to find the back of the net. The Red Dragons found the gas pedal offensively and scored their fourth goal at 1:37.

Cortland asserted their dominance by scoring with a man-up just 11 seconds into the second quarter, followed by another goal 10 seconds later. With 6:44 left, the Red Dragon score increased to 7-1 on a man-up opportunity; a turnover by Oswego granted Cortland possession once more, which resulted in their eighth goal. Adding to their commanding lead, the Red Dragons netted number nine.

With Oswego in Cortland territory, Max Brodmann ripped a shot that ricocheted off of the crossbar. The Red Dragons added two more with the second quickly sneaking in on the right side. The Cortland momentum continued at the 6:51 mark as the red and white scored with a low shot to the right corner. Tyler Stevenson ended Oswego's dry spell. He found an open spot on the right side to secure goal number two. The Red Dragons found the net again but the next draw control was won by the Lakers. Logan Prescott picked up the ground ball, rushed the goal and found the back of the net with a low shot to make the score 13-3. Cortland accelerated play even more by scoring three more goals within the last minute and a half of the third quarter.

In the final quarter, the Red Dragons scored two before Liam Sexton was able to find the back of the net with a shot over top of the goalie. After slipping in another Cortland goal, Hayden Coney picked up a ground ball to net one in the bottom right corner. Brodmann then found a loose ball and shoveled it into the back of the net. The Red Dragons netted one last goal to take the win 20-6 over the Lakers. Oswego out shot Cortland in the fourth quarter 15-7 but their offensive footing was found too late.

Oswego remains determined to secure a victory against Cortland, as they have never gotten a win over the Red Dragons in the program's history.
