HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers started the game with back-to-back hits from Blake Van Dreason and Jelani Hamer followed by a bunt single from Owen Parliament. That brought CJ McCarthy to the plate who crushed a grand slam over the right field fence for a 4-0 Laker lead.
Jai Sharma was on the mound for the Lakers and worked a scoreless first and second inning against the Hawks.
In the second inning, Owen Parliament boosted the offense with a two-run home run of his own sending home Hamer and building the Laker lead to 6-0. Next, Jacob Levine hit a no-doubter over the left field fence to continue the offensive outburst for the Lakers.
In the third, Tishawn Featherstone led the inning off with a home run to centerfield making the score 8-0. After Trey McGowan ripped a single through the left side, Blake Van Dreason sent a home run over the right field fence and the Lakers led 10-0 in the third.
It wasn't until the third inning that Sharma allowed a run on a base hit through the right side. Sharma held the Hawks in check once again in the fourth inning with no runs on no hits. In the fifth, New Paltz added another 5 runs including a home run cutting the lead down to 10-6. The five home runs for the Lakers tied the SUNYAC record for most homeruns in a playoff game.
In the sixth, Oswego got one run back when Hamer started the inning off with a double, stole third, and scored off a Parliament double to center field.
Alek Conrad came in relief in the sixth inning for Sharma and the Hawks scored one run on a sacrifice fly. In the seventh, New Paltz added another run, and the score was 11-8 heading to the eighth.
When we arrived at the bottom of the ninth, it was Jonah Shearer on the mound for Oswego looking to get the final three outs of the game. The Hawks started the bottom of the inning off with back-to-back base hits. A bloop single over Winchesters head at shortstop made the score 10-11. New Paltz tied the game on a SAC fly to left field, 11-11. A single up the middle gave New Paltz the lead completing their 10-run comeback over the Lakers.
