OSWEGO, NY - The SUNY Oswego men's and women's cross-country team are set to kick off their 2024 season in just a few weeks. This will be the fourth season for head coach Juan Martinez who will host the SUNYAC championships here in Oswego, NY at Fallbrook on Saturday November 2
nd. Let's take a look at the 2024-25 incoming class!
Noah Melita comes to Oswego from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, NY. In high school, he was a Section III Class B-2 boys track and field champion in the 1600 and 3200. His personal best of 9:47 in the 3200 and 4:44 in the 1600. Top 29 at the Class C Cross Country State Championship. "With the leadership and talent that Noah possesses, he will give us a much-needed boost to lead the team for better success in the future" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Jeffery Simmons is from Medford, NY and is transferring to Oswego from Suffolk Community College. Some of his career highlights are finishing in 3rd place in the 800 at the NJCAA Div III National Championships with a personal best of 1:57. "We are very excited to have Jeffrey on the team, with his talent and experience competing at the Junior College National Championships he can place well at the SUNYAC track and field championships and give us a big boost for our cross-country team " Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Elijah LaNigra is a local standout from Oswego High School in Oswego, NY. His best times were 4:54 on the 1600 and 18:29 5k. "Elijah helped his Oswego High cross-country team win the 2023 SCAC League Empire Championships. We are excited to have a hometown kid stay home and attend Oswego State. He will also give us a great boost to our cross-country team" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Aiden Sampson will head to SUNY Oswego from Port Leyden, NY. He attended South Lewis Senior High School. Some of his career highlights include a time of 2:06 in the 800 meter, 4:44 in the 1600 meter, and 10:19 in the 3200 meter. His cross country 5k PR is 14:16. "I am glad that Aiden chose to come to SUNY Oswego where I am confident that he will excel not only in the classroom but also give our men's cross-country team a huge boost" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Thomas (TJ) Bowes will join the Oswego Cross Country team after competing for the Oswego men's track and field teams. He is from Medford, NY and has a 4:55 mile time and has a personal best of 17:32 in a 5k. "TJ is not a first-year student however, this is his first time running cross country for Oswego. With the addition of TJ, I believe that our men's team will be in good contention for top 3 in the conference" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Hannah Reichard is from Cicero, NY and Cicero North Syracuse High School. After competing for the women's track and field team last season, she joins the Lakers Cross Country team in 2024. Last season she placed 3rd at the 2024 SUNYAC conference 800 meters championships and 3rd team all SUNYAC conference. "Hannah is not a newcomer to our school however she is a newcomer to our women's cross-country team. The addition to having Hannah on our women's cross-country team will give us a solid 1-2-3 line-up" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Sophia Shatrynski heads to Oswego from Altamont, NY and Guilderland High School. Some of her career highlights are a cross-country personal record of 21:43, and 800 meter PR of 2:32, and a 1500 PR of 5:38. "Sophia is a great addition to our women's team. With the addition of Sophia, we can see her helping our team at the 4th and 5th spot. Sophia just completed the 2024 Utica Boilermaker with a time of 1:17:42" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Jessica Torrey is from Canastota, NY and attended Oneida High School as well as the University at Albany. She has a 1500 meter personal record of 5:30 and most recently completed the Utica Boilermaker in a time of 1:09 to finish 11th in her age group. "I am very confident that with the addition of Jessica, our team will be the strongest it's been to compete for the SUNYAC conference championships" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Angelina Buttigieg is coming to Oswego from Center Moriches, NY and Center Moriches High School. Her 5k personal best is 21:44 along with a time of 1:13 in the 400-meter hurdle, 5:51 in the 1500 meter, and 2:51 in the 800 meter. "I believe that Angelina has the talent to help our women's team compete for a conference championship" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Gabby Brumbaugh will be a Laker after attending Monticello High School and hailing from Rock Hill, NY. Gabby has a personal best time of 5:32 in the 1500 meter and 2:50 in the 800 meter. "I know Gabby will continue to improve throughout the season helping the women's team compete in the SUNYAC" Head Coach Juan Martinez.
Men's and women's cross country will open their season at the Le Moyne Invite on Saturday August 31
st. Their first home meet will be Saturday September 7
