OSWEGO, NY– The Oswego State Volleyball team hosted their annual tournament, this year with 5 visiting teams. The Lakers faced off against Penn State Behrend, Hilbert, and Utica finishing with a 2-1 record for the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first match of the weekend for the Lakers was on Friday night. They took on the Hilbert Hawks of the AMCC. The Lakers won the first two sets decisively sending home a combined 22 kills. However, Hilbert did not go quietly and ended up surprising the Lakers and taking sets 3 and 4 to force a 5
th set.
In the final set, a kill from
Emily Zeisler and some attack errors built the Oswego lead to 3-0. That lead ballooned as high as 10-1 thanks to kills from Zeisler and
Kalley Vugteveen. With a commanding late set lead,
Priscilla McReynolds delivered a kill of her own and a bad set by Hilbert clinched the first win of the weekend for Oswego.
Oswego was first on the court Saturday for a 12:00 PM game against another AMCC team, Penn State Behrend. Late in the first set, Oswego found themselves down 24-17. They rallied off 8 straight points that included kills from
Priscilla McReynolds and
Kalley Vugteveen as well as a few service aces. With the game tied at 25, Behrend scored twice in a row to take the first set. Oswego went on to drop the second set but bounced back with victories in the third and fourth, once again playing a 5
th decisive set.

Grace Gdovin and
CJ Eidem started a 3-0 rally for the Lakers in the 5
th. After Behrend answered back
Emily Zeisler slammed home a kill from
Mya Bush. Oswego built an 8-6 lead but Behrend rattled off 6 straight points to take a lead of their own, 12-8. Unfortunately, two late kills from
Grace Gdovin were not enough and the Lakers fell in the fifth set, 15-11.
The final match of the weekend for Oswego was against Utica University of the Empire 8. This match can be summed up as complete domination from the Lakers. Some of the standouts were

Priscilla McReynolds (11 Kills),
Mya Bush (28 assists), and
CJ Eidem (18 digs). The Lakers took care of the Pioneers in three straight sets to finish the weekend with a record of 2-1.
