HOW IT HAPPENED
In their first conference match of the season the Lakers faced immediate offensive pressure from Oneonta. Before three minutes ticked off the clock, Oneonta intercepted a Oswego pass in the midfield and scored a breakaway goal to take a 1-0 lead. Later, the Red Dragons had a corner kick opportunity and the 5'11 defender for Oneonta sent home a header making the lead 2-0 in the 28th minute of action. The Lakers had opportunities of their own including a penalty kick towards the end of the first half by
Emma Rechtorovic, but the shot was stopped by the Red Dragon keeper. The Lakers trailed at the half, 2-0.
Early in the second half, the Lakers were inches away from a goal when they were called offsides, slowing down their momentum. Oswego continued to push the ball down the field but each time it was turned away by the Oneonta defense before a real scoring opportunity was created. The Lakers continued to outshoot the Red Dragons but the Oneonta keeper only was forced to make 4 saves on the day. With the half winding down, the Lakers had multiple free kick chances to send the ball in, but each were deterred by the Oneonta defense.
The Lakers fell in their first conference match of the season, 2-0.
