HOW IT HAPPENED
Josh Simpson netted the first goal for the Lakers just 5 minutes into the first period, assisted by
Ryan Burke and
Brandon Cohen. The first period was extremely even, as the Lakers out-shot Cortland 11-9, but the Red Dragons found the back of the net just four minutes after Simpson, and they went into the second period tied at 1 goal a piece.
There was much more action in the second period, as Cortland took the lead almost immediately, scoring less than a minute into the period.
Colin Vassallo netted a power play goal 15 minutes into the second to tie it up, and it was still anybody's game with 5 to play in the second.
Cortland retook the lead again with 1:46 to play in the second, to which the Lakers responded almost immediately with a goal of their own, scored short handed by
Daniel Colabufo, tying things back up once again with 50 seconds left.
Cortland would score what would end up being the game winner just 30 seconds after the Lakers tied things up in the second on a power play.
Cortland put on a strong defensive showing in the third, being out-shot 21-7, but the Lakers couldn't get past the glove of Cortland goaltender Ronan Mobley, as they fell 4-3 to the Red Dragons.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lakers will be back in action this Friday, January 31st, at 7PM in Potsdam, NY.
