OSWEGO, NY - The Lakers were back in action on Tuesday hosting a familiar conference foe. After falling to SUNY New Paltz in the second round of the SUNYAC playoffs last season, the Lakers welcomed them to Laker Hall on Tuesday evening.
THE BASICS
Final Score:
Oswego 51 (4-6, 1-2 SUNYAC),
New Paltz 68 (4-6, 4-0 SUNYAC)
Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium I Oswego, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers jumped out to a small lead in this one with a score of 8-4 in the first few minutes. It wasn't until the final minutes of the first quarter when New Paltz took their first lead of the night and carried it for the rest of the quarter. The second quarter was the lowest scoring quarter for both teams. There was a combined 17 points scored, and the Lakers managed to close the gap slightly to make it 26-22 at half time.
The third quarter is where the Hawks continued to build a lead over the Lakers who ran into offensive struggles. After a few missed free throws and turnovers, the Lakers found themselves down 11-points heading into the final quarter. Oswego cut the lead down to single digits with 8 minutes remaining off a layup from
Giavanna White-Principio, but the New Paltz defense stifled them for the rest of the game and handed the Lakers their second conference loss of the season.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Oswego State Lakers will hit the road this Friday to take on the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
