How It Happened
The Potsdam Bears opened the match with early possession but struggled to advance as the Oswego State Lakers quickly took control. Both teams battled around midfield in the opening minutes before a foul on a Laker led to a Potsdam free kick, which brought the ball into scoring range but ended with an offside call. Just over four minutes in, the Lakers earned their first corner kick, turning it into an early lead as Erika Yancey scored off an assist from Kyla Sustad to make it 1–0 Oswego. Possession stayed fairly even until Potsdam earned back-to-back corners midway through the half, followed by a foul in the box against Oswego that resulted in a converted penalty kick to tie the game 1–1. The Lakers responded with consistent pressure and control, keeping Potsdam's defense busy. Their persistence paid off when Yancey netted her second goal of the game, this time a header assisted by Amber McDermott, to put Oswego back in front 2–1, where the score would remain heading into halftime.

The second half opened with a quick foul against the Bears, giving the Lakers an early free kick. Potsdam briefly regained possession, but Oswego quickly fought back and pushed the ball deep into their attacking zone. With 38 minutes remaining, the Lakers earned their first corner of the half, though the resulting shot went wide. Moments later, a foul just outside the 18-yard box set up another scoring opportunity, and Kyla Sustad's free kick found Lauren O'Connell, who tapped it in to extend Oswego's lead to 3–1. The back-and-forth play continued, but Oswego maintained the upper hand, moving the ball strategically across the field and wearing down Potsdam's defense. As time wound down, the Bears ramped up their intensity in an effort to close the gap, but the Lakers held strong on both ends of the field. The clock expired with Oswego securing a well-earned 3–1 victory.
