HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set opened with a block from the Blue Devils, but the Lakers quickly battled back as Alaina Dudzinski recorded a kill to earn them the serve. Both teams exchanged points early on, and after a kill from Gigi Basile, Oswego led 4-2. However, a block from Fredonia and a few attack errors by the Lakers allowed the Blue Devils to tie the score at 5-5. Fredonia then went on a six-point run, forcing an Oswego timeout as the Lakers trailed 6-11. The Blue Devils kept their momentum going, adding four more points before Kalley Vugteveen broke their streak with a block. Moments later, Gabby Bishop and Dudzinski combined for another block to cut the deficit to 8-17. Dudzinski followed with another kill, but Fredonia responded with a kill and a service ace, prompting Oswego's second timeout at 9-20. Coming out of the timeout, Fredonia served another ace, but Oswego fought back with three consecutive kills — one from Dudzinski and two from Priscilla McReynolds. The Blue Devils answered with three straight points to reach set point at 12-24. The Lakers refused to back down, capitalizing on a Fredonia service error, then earning points from a block by Vugteveen and McReynolds, and a kill by Vugteveen to make it 15-24. Despite their late push, Fredonia closed out the set 25-15 with a final kill.

The second set began with a tight exchange of points, featuring early kills from Kalley Vugteveen and Priscilla McReynolds to bring the score to 3-3. Fredonia started to edge ahead, but Oswego stayed close behind, with back-to-back kills from McReynolds and Piper Adams cutting the deficit to 5-6. The back-and-forth continued as Adams added another kill and a service ace to bring the Lakers within one at 9-10. Despite Oswego's strong effort and high intensity, Fredonia maintained their momentum, preventing the Lakers from taking the lead. Oswego did well to limit long scoring runs by the Blue Devils but struggled to create extended runs of their own, trailing 14-16 midway through the set. After falling behind 15-19, the Lakers called a timeout to regroup, but Fredonia responded with three consecutive points upon returning to play, forcing Oswego to take a second timeout. Although the Lakers continued to battle, Fredonia closed out the set with another three-point stretch to take it 25-15.

Fredonia opened the third set with a kill, but Oswego quickly responded with one of their own from Alaina Dudzinski. After trading a few points, the Lakers went on a five-point run highlighted by a block from Kalley Vugteveen and Priscilla McReynolds, along with a kill from McReynolds, to take a 6-4 lead. The Blue Devils briefly halted the run with a kill, but Oswego maintained control with a kill from Gigi Basile and another block from Vugteveen and McReynolds, extending their lead to 8-5. The back-and-forth continued, featuring two more kills from Vugteveen as the Lakers held a 10-8 advantage. Following three Fredonia errors, Oswego extended their lead to 13-9, prompting a Blue Devils timeout. Returning to play, Fredonia earned a point, but Oswego answered with a block from Dudzinski and Piper Adams, followed by a McReynolds kill to make it 15-10. Fredonia then found their rhythm, tying the score at 15-15 and forcing Oswego to call a timeout. The score remained tight at 18-18 before Fredonia pulled ahead 21-18. The Lakers battled back, tightening communication and narrowing the gap to 21-22. A kill from Basile tied the set at 23-23, and an attack error from Fredonia gave Oswego set point at 24-23, leading to a Blue Devils timeout. Fredonia tied it once again at 24-24, but a Dudzinski kill put Oswego back at set point, 25-24. In a tense finish, Fredonia responded with a kill to tie it 25-25, then secured the final two points to take the set 27-25 and win the match.
