HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half started with a foul on Canton, giving the Lakers an early free kick, and possession quickly bounced up and down the field. The Kangaroos had a potentially dangerous breakaway one-on-one with Oswego goalie Kyle Rose, but he scooped up the ball before they could get a shot off. Possession remained fairly even, though Oswego began taking control, registering their first shot three minutes in, which went just wide. The Lakers earned their first corner a few minutes later, but the Kangaroos' defense held strong, denying any scoring opportunities. Oswego continued to push forward, earning multiple corners and feeding shots on goal, though the Canton goalkeeper and defenders consistently blocked attempts. Canton finally managed their first shot about twenty minutes in, but it sailed high over the net. As the half progressed, play remained back and forth, with Oswego maintaining greater possession while Canton occasionally threatened. The final minutes saw increased intensity, multiple fouls, and scrappy play as both teams tried to break the deadlock. The first half ended scoreless, with the Lakers holding control but unable to find the back of the net.
Canton started the second half with possession and a shot on goal, but it went directly to Oswego goalie Kyle Rose for an easy save. The Lakers quickly countered, moving the ball down the field for a shot on Canton's keeper, showcasing strong communication and smooth passing across the team. About eight minutes in, Oswego earned its first corner of the half but was unable to convert. The game grew increasingly physical, with fouls stacking up on both sides, including a yellow card for Canton. Maintaining momentum from the first half, the Lakers controlled the majority of possession and took multiple shots on goal, yet still could not find the back of the net. With 22 minutes left, Oswego earned two consecutive corners with shots on goal, but Canton's defense held firm. Canton managed a breakaway later, but the Lakers' defense shut it down. The deadlock finally broke with just over ten minutes remaining when Tajay Ellis scored to put Oswego ahead 1-0. The Lakers continued their aggressive play, controlling the ball and pressing for another goal, while Canton struggled to maintain possession. With under four minutes left, Oswego had another corner, but Canton cleared it, and the Lakers maintained control through the final whistle, securing a 1-0 victory.
