Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Oswego Secures 3-1 Win in Third Period

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Men's Hockey hosted the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds in their second conference contest of the season. Looking to feed off the momentum generated in yesterday's 3-2 Whiteout Night win, the Lakers wasted no time getting to work in today's matchup. But Skidmore did not hesitate to match their fiery energy. An even, but scoreless first period would leave it up to either team to break the seal in the second. Unphased by another solid start from the Lakers, Skidmore would be the first to add to the tally seconds into play. Despite a few powerplay advantages, Oswego struggled to produce anything of note, delaying their theatrics for the final frame. Not ready to relinquish, a persistent effort by the Lakers finally allowed them to find the back of the net, not once, not twice, but three times before the final buzzer, winning 3-1. Remaining undefeated in both conference and regular season games.

Skidmore 1 (1-3-0, 0-2-0 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

A fast start by the Lakers would allow them to get their legs under them and test opposing netminder Joshua Seeley. The Thoroughbreds did not hesitate to match Oswego's excited energy, responding with a compilation of shots and hits of their own. As the opening period continued to unfold, both teams traded turns on the powerplay, but neither were able to capitalize. While the clock began to slowly tick down, tensions between Oswego and Skidmore began to elevate, leaving the first goal of the game to be tallied in the second period.

Unphased by another determined start by the Lakers, the Thoroughbreds would find the back of the net just 0:47 seconds into the 2nd frame. Now trailing 1-0, Oswego worked hard to regain some momentum but struggled to connect on their zone entries. The Lakers earned consecutive man-up opportunities in the middle minutes of the period, but Oswego still could not produce. As the final frame grew closer, Skidmore remained consistent on offense, maintaining possession and zone presence.

Determined to neutralize the score, Oswego put their foot on the gas, dominating at both ends of the ice. In typical Laker fashion, they saved their theatrics for the third period of play, netting an equalizer at the 9:06 mark off an odd-man rush. Not ready to relinquish just yet, a physical effort by Skidmore awarded them with a 5-on-3 powerplay for a series of minutes. But an impressive performance by the Lakers penalty killers rejected any chances generated by the Thoroughbreds. Another Oswego powerplay would not produce anything of note, but as time started to run out, Josh Simpson netted a goal off the skate of Seeley. Giving the Lakers a 2-1 lead with just under 3 minutes left. A final empty-net attempt secured by Tommy Bannister sealed the deal as the buzzer sounded. The Lakers remain undefeated in both conference and regular season play, heading into next week's competition.
