OSWEGO, NY - Oswego looking to end the season on a strong note with lots of SUNYAC play invites in the conference rival Plattsburgh Cardinals.
THE BASICS
Oswego 74 (14-8, 10-5 SUNYAC)
Plattsburgh 87 (13-10, 10-6 SUNYAC)
Max Ziel Gymnasium | Oswego, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
This game couldn't have started off better for both squads. Both teams only missed one shot in the first 4 minutes. Ikechukwu Ezike for Plattsburgh had 9 to start off the game. Scoring was more widespread for the Lakers but the usual culprit of
Deacon Judd led the way with 5. We were knotted at 11. The score wouldn't move. So much scoring for both squads, 20 points a side in the first 8 minutes. Judd kept feeding the fire as he had 9 up to this point.
Cole Kattan was everywhere as he had 2 steals on the defensive side of the ball. Both teams were playing fast to pull away but couldn't do it. This quickly changed as the Cardinals had a lengthy run. In this 2 minutes and 46 seconds, they scored 13 unanswered points on 100% shooting. Coach Leone had to try to stop this momentum, so a timeout was called. Although Oswego was better on the offensive side of the ball, the defensive side didn't change. Plattsburgh was dialed in. Franklin Infante had 6 to end this first half.
Billy Reyes tried to get Oswego back in as he had 5 in the last 7 minutes, but Plattsburgh just shot the ball too well and just strived on O. Plattsburgh was up big to end the first 20 minutes, 50-38.
At the half it was Judd, with 16 points. The senior,
Ahkee Anderson, also had 8 in the first half.
Defense was just not in the game plan for either squads as both teams came out with multiple open looks and were indeed capitalizing on them.
Deacon Judd was shooting a magnet ball tonight as he just couldn't miss.
Gary McLane, the freshman, opened his scoring early in the second as well. Score wise, Oswego was getting closer but couldn't find that breakaway point. 6 minutes in they were still down 9. Although the gap was beginning to close, they had to start flying a bit faster to catch up to the Cardinals. Oswego, slowly but surely, did in fact start to close that gap.
Billy Reyes hit some big-time triples as well as
Gary McLane keeping his scoring going. The Lakers were within 5 late in the second period. Oswego was almost there but the Cardinals offense was just too much to handle. They wouldn't let go of the momentum and that lead would slowly go right back to the 10 point-mark. McClane would give everything he had as he had 6 in the last 6 minutes. Kevin Tabb, like he did all game for Plattsburgh, hit his last 2 free throws to put the nail in the coffin for the Cardinals. Plattsburgh ended this one on top 87-74.
Judd did everything he could in this one, he had 21.
Billy Reyes dropped 14 and 3 shots behind the arc to go.
