OSWEGO, NY - The Lakers hosted the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs on Saturday afternoon when they celebrated their seniors. The Lakers looked to grab some revenge after falling to the Mustangs in Morrisville earlier this season.
THE BASICS
Oswego 77 (17-8, 13-5 SUNAYC)
Morrisville 67 (13-12, 9-9 SUNYAC)
Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium / SUNY Oswego / Oswego, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers took off quickly with three buckets from McLane and Anderson to go ahead 6-0. However, the athleticism of the Mustangs caught the Lakers off guard, and they found themselves down 17-11 early. Senior
Sean Edwards would close the gap with a three followed by fellow seniors
Ahkee Anderson and
Jaden Kennedy. Oswego tried to claw their way to a lead last in the first half but Morrisville had an answer for everything even after back-to-back three from seniors
Billy Reyes and
Xavier Allen. The Lakers were down 36-32 at the break.
Energy was the key word for Oswego in the second half and they took their first lead of the half at the 17-minute mark off a three from senior
Cole Kattan. The lead got as high as eight before the Mustangs began to creep back into the game. Oswego and Morrisville traded baskets but a three from
Xavier Allen in the final 5 minutes started to put this game out of reach for Morrisville. Defensive and offensive discipline helped the Lakers earn a big home win securing their second seed in the SUNYAC Playoffs.
Xavier Allen and
Deacon Judd both had a team high 16 points followed by
Ahkee Anderson with 14.
This victory achieves another career milestone for head coach
Jason Leone who now has 350 career wins!
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will have a short break until they are back in action again on Saturday March 1
st at SUNY New Paltz against a to be determined opponent in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Playoffs.
