HOW IT HAPPENED
The Oswego Lakers traveled to Oneonta, NY, to open up the season against Empire 8's Hartwick Hawks. The Lakers were able to jump to a 3-1 lead early on, as unassisted goals by
Jason Dongelewic,
Trey Jones, and
Hayden Coney put the Lakers ahead. In a high-scoring affair, the Lakers found themselves stringing passes together to lead 7-5 going into the halftime break.
The script was flipped in the 3rd quarter. The Hartwick Hawks were able to create confusion in the Laker's defense, as they went on to score five unanswered goals to take a 9-7 lead. The Laker scoring drought continued deep into the 2nd half until Laker's
Garrett Elston was able to light up the scoreboard at 12:49 in the 4th quarter. Despite Elston's goal, Hartwick would go on to score three more unanswered goals to take a 12-8 lead with 6:25 left in the contest. Deep in the fourth, the Lakers would go on a 3-goal run themselves, but it ultimately wasn't enough as the Hartwick Hawks escaped with a narrow one-goal victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will return to action this Saturday, March 1st, at noon in their home opener when they take on Oberlin in another non-conference tilt.
