Oswego Starts Road Trip With Win Over Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Lakers coming off a big win over SUNY Canton looks to keep the fire burning as they travel to Fredonia N.Y on Friday night.

THE BASICS
Oswego (13-7, 9-4 SUNYAC)
Fredonia (5-15, 3-10 SUNYAC)
Location : Dods Hall Gymnasium | Fredonia, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The big SUNYAC matchup was expected to start fast but it certainly did not. The first 4 minutes only had 3 field goals. Deacon Judd started early with a bonus distance jumper. It was the 10th triple of the season for the freshman. This pace quickly changed when Fredonia and Oswego made 3 straight buckets. The scoring did not stop from here as both teams were hot as Miami in the summer. The first ten minutes were close, through and through. We were squared at 14 at the midway point of the 1st half. Amir Ross started a quick 9-2 run for the Blue Devils with a pretty finish at the rim. This 7-point lead wouldn't budge for the remaining minutes until the Lakers had a 6-0 run at the end of the half. The score was 30-31 with the Devils leading.

The 1,000-point scorer, Xavier Allen was the tip of Oswego's spear with 11 points through 20. Ahkee Anderson also had 9.

Brandon Kulakowski for Fredonia also had one short of a dozen. Kulakowski was shooting very efficiently as he was 71% from the field. Amir Ross tacked on 6 with 4 rebounds.

The second half started similar to the first, very slow. Both teams were trying to figure each other out. The Lakers finally got things going as they went on a quick 6-0 run. 3 different scorers for Oswego on this one. Fredonia answered quickly with their own run. This one being 7-0. Back and forth we went until the Lakers said, "enough of this", and they started to run away with it. Gary McLane was the lead sprinter on this run as he had 4. Free throws were falling as they only missed 1 and made 4. The Lakers under 5 minutes were up 11. Xavier Allen and Ahkee Anderson were a 2-headed monster in this one as they had 35 combined as the 2nd half was winding down. The score remained right around 10 for the remainder of the 2nd. Every Fredonia bucket was answered by the Lakers. Ahkee Anderson finished strong with 4 more points in the last 4 minutes. The Lakers after going down early prevailed to top the Blue Devils, 66-54.

Allen notched his second highest scoring game of the season with 21. Anderson had 16 for the Lakers.

Kulakowski led the Blue Devils with 17 and 11 rebounds. Isaiah Youngquist had 7 points and 5 boards of his own.
