HOW IT HAPPENED
Brockport wasted no time in this contest as on their first offensive possession they would score. After being down 2-0 early, Oswego would respond nicely as
Julia Quirk ripped one into the back of the net. It was 2-1 with Oswego looking for more.
Alexis Hill would tie things up for the Lakers but right back at them would be Brockport's Sarah Kilburn to take the lead right back. Oswego would again tie it back up and at this point, we knew we were in for a good one.
The second quarter would start off with another
Julia Quirk goal. It was her 2nd of the day. Brockport would score 3 unanswered goals and pick up a commanding lead. Oswego would score but Brockport kept their foot on the gas and led 7-5 going into half time.
Julia Quirk came out of a cannon to start the second half. She had two goals in 40 seconds. The game was tied 7-7. A little later,
Mackenzie Winn and
Cassidy Croce would put their 2 cents in on the goal scoring and pick up a goal to take a lead of 2 late in the third. This lead would hold for the last 5 minutes, and the Lakers were sitting pretty going into the 4th but work still had to be done.
Brockport would come out firing as they picked up a quick goal to cut the lead within one. The game would go dry with good defensive play by both squads for a couple minutes. This was until
Alexis Hill would get one past the goalie to increase that lead back to 2. Brockport would regroup and again score 3 goals straight to completely flip the script of this one. With only 3 minutes left, Brockport led by 1.
Alexis Hill would again come up big for the Lakers, tying this one back up with only 2 minutes and some change left. In the end,
Mackenzie Winn would dabble a little in her last name and would win this one for the Lakers as she sent a bullet into the net with 1:37 left in the game. Oswego would be victorious in a thriller of a game.
