LAKERS UNABLE TO SECURE WIN IN SUNDAY’S DOUBLE-HEADER

SALISBURY, MD - The Lakers took on the Salisbury Sea Gulls in a double header down in Salisbury, Maryland on Sunday.

THE BASICS

Oswego 3 (1-2, 0-0 SUNYAC)

Salisbury 10 (5-1, 0-0 C2C)

Sea Gull Baseball Stadium | Salisbury, MD

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego was knocking on the door early as in the 1st they had runners on 1st and 2nd but Tishawn Featherstone wouldn't be able to beat the throw to third and the Lakers would leave 2 stranded.

  • The bottom of the 1st along with the 2nd and the top of the 3rd were quick innings and the score remained 0-0

  • This changed when Salisbury's Trent Waire would pick up a 3-bagger and TJ Morris would knock him home with a single, 1-0 was the score.

  • Oswego would remain cold and Salisbury would pick up their second run of the day on a wild pitch from the Lakers pitcher, Jacob Sanders.

  • Scoring picked back up in the 6th inning when Patrick May doubled and Tishawn Featherstone would rip a single into left field. May would beat the throw and the Lakers would cut the lead in half.

  • The Seagulls wasted no time pushing that lead back to 2 after a triple by Noah Burroughs. Jackson Inman would ground out but the speed of Burroughs would be evident, and he would score to make it a 3-1 lead for Salisbury.

  • Oswego's struggles would continue but it was the opposite for Salisbury. After a sacrifice fly and a pair of singles, the Seagulls would find themselves up 8-1 on the Lakers. They were running away with this one.

  • After Oswego would leave another 2 on base in the top of the 8th, in the bottom of the 8th, Salisbury would not take their foot off the pedal. A throwing error would send 2 runners home for the Seagulls and they would extend their lead to 9.

  • The Lakers trying to get back in this one would start the 9th with a single from Joe McLaughlin. Thomas Harrington in the pinch hitting position would also single and Oswego was in business. With runners in the corners and an error by the Seagulls. McLaughlin would score. An infield hit by Ben Rollisen and a throwing error would let Harrington cross home. The Lakers within 7 wouldn't be able to keep the scoring up and would fall to the Seagulls 10-3 in game 1-of-2.

WIN - Cole Williams

LOSS - Jacob Sanders

Luke Belanger's POTG - Patrick May (2 HIts, 2 2B, 1 Run)

GAME 2:

THE BASICS

Oswego 6 (1-3, 0-0 SUNYAC)

Salisbury 16 (6-1, 0-0 C2C)

Sea Gull Baseball Stadium | Salisbury, MD

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury could not have come out more hot, almost putting this game away in the first inning. They scored 1 short of a dozen runs in this opening inning. It was 5 straight singles that resulted in 3 runs. A hit-by-pitch followed by a walk followed by a wild pitch resulted in a call to the bullpen early. An infield error by Oswego and then a homer by Salisbury's Danny Sheeler would make the score 9-0. A RBI single and a walk would round off the scoring for the Seagulls making the score 11-0 in the first inning.

  • Scoring wouldn't pick back up until the top of 4th when the Lakers would make an effort to make this a game. Daniel Rosenberg would single and Joe McLaughlin would walk. Oswego was finally in business. Back-to-back ground outs would let runners advance and Oswego was on the board with a run. A passed ball would let Mclaughlin touch them all and Oswego put up a 2 spot in the top of the 4th.

  • Scoring would go stagnant until the 8th inning when Oswego would use their final breath to try to make a comeback. With the bases loaded, Patrick May would stay hot and hit his 4th double of the weekend. This one would clear the bases and Oswego would cut the lead to 6. May would then score on a fielder's choice. Tishawn Featherstone would pick up the RBI. The Lakers were within 5.

  • Salisbury would respond nicely as they would put up a 5 spot on their turn in the 8th inning. They had 5 hits in this inning but it was mostly the struggle on Oswego's end. 2 wild pitches and 2 walks for them this inning would give the Seagulls runs that they maybe didn't deserve. The score was now 16-6 and the game would end in a mercy rule in the 8th.

WIN - Aiden Hankins

LOSS - Jai Sharma

Luke Belanger's POTG - Patrick May (1 2B, 3 RBI)
