Oswego Pulls Out W Versus Wilkes Colonels

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Lakers continued their road trip with a match-up against Wilkes University Colonels. The Lakers were able make the most of this weekend road trip as they came out on top 6-2.

THE BASICS

Oswego 6 (2-3, 0-0 SUNYAC)

Wilkes U 2  (5-4, 0-0 LAND)

Ralston Athletic Complex - Bruggeworth Field| Wilkes Barre | PA

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers and Colonels Defenses came out to play during the first three innings of the contest. Both starting pitches seemed to be in a groove. Until the third Inning where some crafty base stealing would allow Lakers Senior Joe McLaughlin to broke the tie and put the first run on the board. Joe would steal third base and force an errand throw by the catcher that would allow Joe to continue home 1-0 Lakers through the third Inning.

  • Lakers Starting Pitcher Jake Sanders continued to have an excellent day on the bump, finding different ways to get in and out of innings and forcing the Colonels to swing the bat where the Lakers defense was ready to back their starter up.

  • A quiet fourth inning would lead to a storm in the fifth. Where the Colonels would answer back to the Lakers lead. Starter Jake Sanders was able to limit the damage as they allowed two runs to come across but was able to get a much needed ground ball to get out of the inning with the Lakers down 1, 2-1 Colonels

  • Lakers Junior Jonah Shearer would come in during the sixth inning after Sanders finished their day leaving the Lakers in prime position for a major comeback

  • It was not until the 8th inning until the Lakers saw their offense open up the game and the scoreboard. Key base runners would start the inning as May and Winchester would get aboard which gave the baton and opportunity for Lakers Senior outfielder. A double off the bat of Lakers Senior Felix De Asa Delacruz would break the game open as it allowed for May to score easily and for Winchester to round the bases making the scoring and game back in favor of the Lakers 3-2.

  • The Lakers were not done, up 1 in the top of the eighth. With two runners on, a clutch piece of hitting by Lakers catcher Brendan Mair would send two more Lakers across the home and allow for a more comfortable lead to build.

  • Junior Jonah Shearer continued their dominant performance as they would shut down the colonels in the eighth before the Lakers would add another insurance run in the ninth off the bat of Daniel Winchester who laid down a beautiful bunt gave the Lakers 6-2 lead

  • The Lakers would then give the ball to left-hander Alex Conrad to close it down in the ninth, Conrad would do just that, allowing only one base runner before getting two huge strikeouts to secure the Lakers win.

WIN - Jonah Shearer

LOSS -  Caleb Graham

Oswego's POTG - Felix De Asa Delacruz (2 HIts, 2 RBI's, 1 Double)
