HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Jacob Sanders got the start on the mound for Oswego, and in the second inning struck out 3 batters with just nine pitches, completing an "immaculate inning", and keeping it tied at 0 runs a piece going into the third.
Emil Sander singled to first to start off the third, followed by
Anthony Barone being hit by a pitch, leaving runners on first and second.
TJ Harrington drove in
Sander, advancing
Barone to third, and scoring the first run of the game for Oswego.Â
Daniel Winchester would improve Oswego's lead to two, with a sac-fly to center field, where
Anthony Barone tagged up and came home.
Dylan Rosenberg would tack on an RBI single, bringing home
Harrington.
After a pitching change for the Red Dragons,
Tishawn Featherstone hit a 2-RBI double, extending the Lakers lead to 5-0 going into the bottom of the third.
In the top of the sixth,
Anthony Barone hit a ground out to first, but it brought home
Tishawn Featherstone, improving Oswego's lead to 6 runs.
TJ Harrington hit another 2-RBI single, driving home
Emil Sander and
Trey McGowan, and making it an 8-0 lead for the Lakers.
Cortland would get four runs back in the bottom of the sixth, closing in on the deficit, and making it 8-4 going into the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Lakers relieved
Jacob Sanders, who finished the day with 9 strikeouts, bringing in
Alek Conrad to close out the game.
Neither team would score in the final two innings, as the Lakers took the win in the first game of the day vs the Red Dragons with a strikeout from
Alek Conrad retiring the final batter.

Game 2
Jonah Shearer took the mound for Oswego State to kick off game two of the double-header, and after a quiet first inning for both teams, the Red Dragons would score 2 runs in the bottom of the second, taking an early 2-0 lead.
Cortland would tack on another run in the bottom of the fourth off a sac-fly deep to right field, building their lead up to 3-0.
The Lakers' hitting struggles would continue into the fifth inning, and
Sean Dertinger came in to relieve
Jonah Shearer, as the rain picked up in Cortland.
It wasn't until the seventh inning that the Lakers were finally able to connect, as
Brendan Mair hit a 2-RBI double, driving home
Emil Sander and
Trey McGowan, bringing the Lakers within one run of the Red Dragons.
Daniel Winchester then walked, but on a wild pitch,
Brendan Mair miraculously made it home, tying up the game.
In the top of the eighth, the rain would turn to snow, as both teams bundled up, and hunkered down for the final two innings. The snow wouldn't phase the Lakers though, as
Matt Carner singled to right field, followed immediately by a double from
Patrick May that was mere inches from clearing the fence.
An intentional walk of
Tishawn Featherstone would load the bases with just one out.
Brendan Mair gave the Lakers a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the eighth, as the Cortland defense was unable to control a single to left field, recording 2 errors in the process.
A
Patrick May double to center field would make it 6-3 going into the bottom of the ninth.Â
Â
Matthew Drillings would come in for the bottom of the ninth, looking to secure the victory for the Lakers, but against all odds, Cortland would drill a 3-run home run to center field, tying it up, and sending this one to extra innings.
In the top of the tenth, Oswego quickly loaded the bases, and Cortland walked
Daniel Winchester, scoring
Trey McGowan, and giving the Lakers a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the tenth.
The Lakers would hold on in the 10th, securing the victory.
