HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

The Lakers looked to start off hot in conference play versus Foe the Cortland Red Dragons as they began their week with a Monday Doubleheader. The Lakers offense would go down in order during the top of the first.  The Lakers for game 1 would hand the ball over to Graduate Chelsea Sellars. The Cortland offense game out strong and they looked to capitalize early.

Some early mistakes  from the Lakers on the mound led to a prolonged inning as the red Dragons were able to drop an eight spot in the bottom of the first that would see the game blow wide open. During this run, the Lakers would hand the ball over to Gabriela Milazo in which she would find a way out of the tough start with the Lakers trailing 8-0.

The Game would not see another offensive explosion, from either side. The Lakers would finally get on the board in the fourth inning as Ellie Mahoney would send a fly ball deep enough to right field that would allow Lillian Haggerty to tag up. Making the scoreline 8-1 Cortland.

Cortland would respond to the Lakers offensive pulse by adding an additional three runs in the bottom of the fourth off of a pair of doubles. 11-1 Cortland

The Lakers would add one final run in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Grace DiPalma would smack a double to right center that would send Layla Trendowski, who hit a double the at bat prior, rounding the bases to tighten the score to 11-2, but this would not be enough to extend the game as they would fall in 5 innings to the Red Dragons in Game 1

Game 2

Oswego looked to bounce back off a disappointing showing in game 1. After allowing 8 runs in the first inning the Lakers would ask Maria Lutz to try and stifle the momentum early. But the Red Dragons proved to be anxious to start conference play as they were able to create a lead in the bottom of the first and never look back.

A home run by the lead off hitter for Cortland would make the scoreline 1-0 Cortland. The Lakers would then allow four more runs throughout the bottom of the first off a few base hits and a costly error in the field. The Lakers would be facing an early deficit for the second straight game as they entered the second.

Maria Lutz would continue to battle but the Cortland offense were able to find holes in the Laker defense. The Red Dragons would add two more runs in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 7-0

Cortland would go on to add two more runs, one in the bottom of the third, and one in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 9-0 Red Dragons.

The Lakers offense would be unable to find their stride in game 2 as they continued to try and find ways to steal bases, but Cortland's starting pitcher Gianna Endieveri would end the day with an impressive line of 5.0 IP, 0 Hits and 8 k's  and no runs allowed as the Lakers would fall in game two

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Lakers will return home tomorrow afternoon, April 15th, to continue SUNYAC conference play against the Oneonta Red Dragons in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM.
