OSWEGO, NY - The Lakers were back in action Thursday afternoon for the first of a three game SUNYAC series against the Plattsburgh Cardinals.
THE BASICS
Final Score
Oswego 15 (16-11, 6-4 SUNYAC)
Plattsburgh 5 (8-15, 1-8 SUNYAC)
Lakers Baseball Field, SUNY Oswego
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego wasted no time getting on the board, with
Trey McGowan scoring in the first after leading off with a double and stealing third.
Anthony Barone was the offensive star of the game, going 2-for-3 with 5 RBIs, including a towering two-run homer in the sixth and a three-run double in the seventh that put the game out of reach.
The Lakers showed depth throughout the lineup, with
Dylan Rosenberg collecting four hits, three runs, and two stolen bases, while Pat May and
Emil Sander each scored three runs. In total, Oswego racked up 15 hits and stole a staggering 12 bases, keeping Plattsburgh's defense constantly on edge.
On the mound,
Sean Dertinger earned the win, going 4 solid innings with 3 strikeouts while allowing only 1 earned run.
Nick Cody provided effective relief over the final three innings, striking out 4 and working around a few defensive miscues.
The game was tight through the fifth, with Oswego holding a narrow 6-4 lead. But the Lakers erupted in the bottom of the seventh, stringing together hit after hit, capped by Barone's three-run double and RBI singles from T. Harrington, T. Featherstone, and Rosenberg.
Plattsburgh's pitching staff struggled to contain the Oswego lineup, combining for 154 pitches and allowing 12 earned runs. Despite a multi-hit effort from Joe Foglia (3-for-4, RBI), the Cardinals couldn't keep pace once the Oswego bats got hot.
