THE BASICS
Final Score
Oswego 4 (14-2, 4-1 SUNYAC)
Cortland 1 (6-5, 3-2 SUNYAC)
Location: Binghamton, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
Competing at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center in Binghamton, the Lakers set the tone early with strong performances in doubles play. The top duo of
Emily DeLuca and
Leah Bell cruised to a 6–2 win, while
Avery Borman and
Isabella Eason battled to a gritty 7–5 victory at second doubles to clinch the point for Oswego. The third doubles match featuring
Emily Lyga and
Kate Hayes was unfinished, but the early 2–0 edge gave the Lakers key momentum heading into singles.
Oswego quickly built on that lead with straight-set victories from the middle of their singles lineup. Borman and Bell delivered back-to-back wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, each showcasing poise and command in their matches. Eason then sealed the deal at fifth singles, defeating Gabriella Stanley 6–4, 6–1 to deliver the Lakers their fourth and match-clinching point.
While Cortland managed one point at the top singles spot, where Emma Madigan defeated
Rafaela Dimitrakopoulou, Oswego's depth across the lineup proved to be the deciding factor. Two other matches were left unfinished, including a hard-fought battle at No. 4 singles between DeLuca and Hannah Green, and a close contest at No. 6 between Hayes and Thut.
With the semifinal win, the Lakers now turn their attention to the SUNYAC Championship Final, where they'll look to cap off an already historic season with the program's first conference title.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will take on the New Paltz Hawks in the SUNYAC Championship tomorrow in Binghamton, NY starting at 1:00 PM.
