Men's Tennis Advances after taking down the Highlanders at home.

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State men's tennis team hit the outdoor courts in Oswego, NY on Tuesday afternoon to host a quarter final match-up in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament. It was against a familiar foe, the Houghton Highlanders.

THE BASICS
Final Score

Oswego 6 (9-3, 6-1 Empire 8)
Houghton 1 (5-10, 4-4 Empire 8)
Location: Laker Outdoor Courts, SUNY Oswego

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego started strong in doubles, taking all three matchups to grab an early lead. The #1 duo of Anthony Marcano and Matt Mannara set the tone with a convincing 8-4 win. Meanwhile, Austin Davis and Jose Miguel Garcia added another point at the #3 spot with a 6-3 victory. The #2 pair of Tyler Yhun and Colin Byer fought hard in a tightly contested match and won in a tiebreaker.

Oswego's depth and consistency shone in singles play, winning four of the six matches and leaving two unfinished. At the top of the lineup, Marcano and Mannara continued their dominance with straight-set wins, not dropping more than three games each. Garcia cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at #5, and although Austin Davis dropped his match at #3, his teammates more than compensated.

Matches at the #4 and #6 spots went unfinished, with both in tightly contested third sets at the time play was stopped.
