Men's Tennis Drops Sunday Match to U of R

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State men's tennis team fell 7-0 on the road Sunday afternoon against a strong University of Rochester squad at the Goergen Athletic Center. The Lakers, now 2-3 on the season, showed flashes of competitiveness but ultimately couldn't overcome a well-balanced Yellowjacket lineup.

THE BASICS
Final Score
Oswego 0 (2-3, 2-3 SUNYAC)
Rochester 7 (8-5, 0-0 Liberty League)
Location: University of Rochester, Rochester, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rochester swept the doubles point with quick victories on all three courts. The Lakers' top pairing of Matt Mannara and Zach Demott fought hard at #1 doubles but fell 6-1 to Rochester's Alan Wang and Surya Rajamani. Oswego's #2 and #3 pairs—Austin Davis/Miguel Garcia and Tyler Yhun/Colin Byer—each dropped their matches 6-0.

In singles play, Oswego looked to regroup but faced a relentless Rochester team that took straight-set wins on all six courts. At the top of the lineup, Mannara battled in the first set against Josh Chu, but couldn't find a rhythm in the second, ultimately falling 6-3, 6-0. Demott and Davis, playing at #3 and #2 respectively, also showed fight early but came up short against their opponents.

Colin Byer and Miguel Garcia each managed to pick up a game in the second set, but the Yellowjackets proved too steady throughout. Tyler Yhun, competing at #6 singles, matched his teammate Mannara by taking three games in the first set, but was shut out in the second.

WHAT'S NEXT
On Friday April 11th, the Lakers will host the Houghton Highlanders starting at 4:00 PM.
