Oswego Holds Off Late Rally to Defeat RIT, 11–9

OSWEGO, NY. – In a game full of momentum swings, Oswego held on to defeat Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) 11–9 on Tuesday afternoon at home. Despite a furious five-run ninth inning by the Tigers, the Lakers' early offensive explosion proved too much to overcome.

THE BASICS
Final Score
Oswego 11 (14-8, 5-4 SUNYAC)
RIT 9 (16-8, 5-4 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first three innings. T. McGowan sparked the offense with a leadoff walk and aggressive base running, stealing two bases before scoring on a groundout. In the third, McGowan and D. Rosenberg delivered RBI hits to make it 3–0.

RIT's C. Slaymaker homered in the fifth to give the Tigers life, followed by an RBI single by R. Dodig that cut the lead to 3–2. But Oswego immediately answered with two runs in the bottom half, taking advantage of passed balls and a key RBI groundout by D. Winchester.

The game turned lopsided in the sixth when Oswego exploded for six runs. E. Sander delivered a 2-RBI single; D. Winchester added another two-run single, and McGowan scored on a steal of home. An error in right field allowed another run to cross, stretching the Lakers' lead to 11–2.

Down 11–4 entering the ninth, RIT mounted a small comeback. After loading the bases, J. Moses delivered a 2-RBI double. An error and passed balls allowed more runs to score, capped off by a RBI single from R. Lee to make it 11–9. With runners on and the tying run at the plate,
Oswego finally shut the door.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will head to St John Fisher tomorrow for a 3:00 PM game and then return home Friday to take on Clarkson in a double header.
