McDermott Scores Lone Goal in Non-Conference Tie with Geneseo

GENESEO, NY - Oswego continued non-conference play after a long Labor Day weekend on Tuesday. Geneseo would have control in this one but the second half goal by Senior Amber McDermott would keep a 0 in the loss column for the Lakers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the Knights coming off a loss, they were determined to start this one off on the right note. For the first 25 minutes of this game, the Knights were in control. They recorded 5 corner kicks and 5 shots on goal.
At 26:38, Geneseo finally scored their second goal of the season when Oswego was whistled for a penalty in the box. This would award a penalty kick to the Knights. Abby Dunnigan would line up for Geneseo and score to put the Knights up 1-0 early.

Oswego would pick it up a bit after this goal as they were on the offensive side of the ball more and recorded a shot that just missed left. Geneseo's defense would remain persistent to keep this contest gap at 1 favoring the Knights of Geneseo going into the locker room.

This kind of defense from the Knights would be quickly exposed in the beginning of the second half of play. Just under 4 minutes into it, the Lakers would get a shot on goal that would be deflected by the Knights goalie, Emily McLouth. After beautifully defending a corner kick down at the other end, Oswego would march right back down the field and Amber McDermott would score for the Lakers. It was now tied, 1-1, as the Senior knocked in her first goal of the season.

Geneseo locked right back in after the game got knotted up as they would go right back to their first-half selves. Luckily for the 1-0 Lakers, the excellent goaltending by Paytyn Crane would keep this contest squared away at 1 for the remainder of this bout between the Knights of Geneseo and the Lakers of Oswego.

WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego travels to Dunkirk this weekend to participate in the Fredonia Tournament. Keuka will be first on the schedule for the Lakers. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm on Friday as the Lakers try to stay undefeated.
