Lakers Ground the Cardinals at home for another SUNYAC win

Oswego, NY - The Oswego State women's basketball team returns home looking to pick up another win in the SUNYAC this weekend. The Lakers took a commanding first-half lead and were able to hold on against the Plattsburgh Cardinals, picking up a 76-70 victory, completing an undefeated weekend of SUNYAC play at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams trading baskets early. Giavanna White-Principio started the game out on fire, scoring 9 points and bringing in 8 rebounds early. Plattsburgh led 14-10 after one.

Oswego took control in the second quarter, dominating on both ends of the floor. The Lakers outscored the Cardinals 30-13 to take a 40-27 lead into halftime. White-Principio posted an impressive first half with 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Zhane Holmes added eight points, including two three-pointers in the quarter. Oswego also controlled the interior, scoring 22 points in the paint by halftime.

Plattsburgh responded coming out of the break, using efficient perimeter shooting to climb back into the game. The Cardinals outscored the Lakers 20-12 in the 3rd quarter, cutting the lead to just 2 points with a minute left in the quarter. Plattsburgh finished the quarter  with 5 3-pointers

The Lakers came out on a 9-2 run to push their lead back to double digits and were able to close the game out, taking a 76-70 victory. Giavanna White-Principio dominated the game, finishing with 28 points and 22 rebounds, while Zhane Holmes finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds.  The Oswego bench played a key role as well, accounting for 24 points.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will travel to Oneonta, New York on Tuesday, January 13th to face the Red Dragons, looking to pick up their second road win in the SUNYAC.
