HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers set the tone early, jumping out to a 19–6 lead after the first quarter behind strong defensive pressure and balanced scoring. Oswego controlled the glass throughout the night and carried a double-digit advantage into the second quarter, but Canton slowly chipped away, cutting the deficit to 31–21 at halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as Canton used an efficient offensive stretch to outscore Oswego 23–14 and take its first lead of the game. The contest remained tight down the stretch, featuring multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter. Oswego tied the game at 51–51 midway through the final period and continued to battle possession by possession in the closing minutes.
Despite strong efforts from the Lakers, Canton sealed the game at the free-throw line in the final seconds. Oswego had a final look to tie or win, but the shot would not fall as time expired.
Bri Weaver led Oswego with 11 points off the bench, while Zhane Holmes added 10 points. Giavanna White-Principio grabbed 16 rebounds to go along with six points, anchoring the Lakers on the glass. Semaiah Williams chipped in six points 12 rebounds as Oswego finished with a 54–46 rebounding edge.

The Lakers are back at Max Ziel Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 20th, looking to pick up a victory against the Oneonta Red Dragons in their second matchup of the season. Tip-off is at 5:30 pm.
