Lakers Drop Road Game to Fredonia Blue Devils

Fredonia, NY. - The SUNY Oswego Women's Basketball team looked to pick up their 3rd straight SUNYAC win on the road against the Fredonia Blue Devils Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a hard-fought 70–67 loss on the road.

THE BASICS
Oswego 67 (7-9, 5-5 SUNYAC)
Buffalo State 70 (10-6, 5-4 SUNYAC)
Location: Dods Hall | Fredonia, NY.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego stuck first in the contest, using an early 11–6 lead to set the tone in the first quarter. The Lakers followed with a 7–0 run to build a 20–10 advantage towards the end of the first.

Guard Bri Weaver gave Oswego an early burst, scoring seven points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field in the opening quarter. She was joined by a strong first-quarter performance from forward Giavanna White-Principio, who added eight points on 3-for-4 shooting. The Lakers maintained control through the second quarter and entered halftime with a 34–29 lead.

Fredonia responded coming out of the break, heating up from beyond the arc in the second half. The Blue Devils knocked down clutch three-pointers to cut the deficit, shooting 5-for-6 from three-point range in the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with multiple lead changes and timely three-pointers from both teams. Weaver drilled a clutch three-pointer with two seconds remaining to cut the deficit to one possession, but Fredonia was able to hold on in the final moments.

Weaver had her season high scoring 23 points, shooting 9 for 16 from the field and knocking down 5 threes for the Lakers. White-Principio had 23 points and 14 rebounds, while adding 5 blocks on the defensive end.

WHAT'S NEXT?
