OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State wrestling team opened the new year with a hard-fought tri-meet on January 3, squaring off against Nassau Community College and Rochester Institute of Technology.

How it Happened
Oswego came up just short in its opening dual, falling 26–23 to Nassau CC in a matchup that remained undecided until the final bout. The Lakers answered early adversity with big performances throughout the lineup, beginning at 133 pounds where Ben Burkhart delivered a commanding 21–2 technical fall to put Oswego on the board.

The heart of the dual came into the middle weights, where Oswego seized momentum with back-to-back pins. Christopher Coleman (174) wasted little time, securing a fall just 1:11 into his match, and moments later Avery Canzano (184) followed with a pin of his own at the 1:33 mark, swinging the dual firmly in the Lakers' favor.

Heavyweight Dustin Koskinen closed the match in emphatic fashion, recording a first period fall to give Oswego critical points and keep the outcome in doubt until the final tally. Despite the late surge and three falls on the night, Nassau CC edged out the Lakers by three points.
Oswego returned to the mat later in the day against RIT, facing an experienced Tigers squad. The Lakers picked up early momentum at 125 pounds as Juan Roque earned a victory by injury default and added another win at 157 where Steven Ventricelli posted an 8–3 decision.

Canzano continued his strong afternoon at 184 pounds, grinding out a narrow 7–6 decision to finish the tri-meet with two wins and a pin on the day. Oswego also picked up a forfeit at 141 pounds, but RIT capitalized on several bonus-point victories to pull away for a 36–12 decision.

Next weekend, the Lakers will head to the Lycoming College Duals on Friday January 9^th for a two-day event.
