HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers wasted no time getting their offense started as in the first minute of the first period,
Brandon Cohen found the back of the net.
Ryan Burke went down with the assist and just in the blink of an eye, the Lakers led 1-0. The puck stayed in Oswego's zone and just a few minutes later, the Lakers ramped it up even more with yet another goal. It was
Cam Symons this time off the feed from
Michael Urgo. Oswego kept control of the puck but when
Michael Manzi was tested in the D-zone for Oswego, he rose to the occasion picking up save after save. The first period ended in favor of the Lakers not only on the scoreboard but in time of possession.
The second period had a slower start as Oswego shifted their mindset to more defense but also because of the excellent goaltending of Manzi. He recorded four saves in the first four minutes. Oswego did get some shots off but Fredonia, not wanting to fall behind three goals, played stout defense to hold Oswego. Oswego had a power play opportunity midway through the second. As they were able to get four quality shots on net, none would fall and 2-0 is where we sat. Right after Oswego's power play, Fredonia got one of their own. But just as Manzi did all game long, he shut down the Blue Devil offense. After multiple shots from both sides, disciplined defense stood out in the second and the score remained 2-0.
The first half of the third period had the same story as the second. Oswego with an obvious focus on defense and it worked well. Fredonia just couldn't generate quality looks and when your offense isn't clicking, it's tough to make your defense click. In the 11th minute, Oswego added on to the lead.
Aidan Cooper got his second goal on the season which also tallied his second game in a row with a goal. It was all Oswego as they led, 3-0. Oswego then added just a couple minutes later, they got another puck in the back of the net. This time it was
Colin Vassallo and the Lakers put this game away with a 4-0 lead.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers are back in action for their last game of the regular season tomorrow. They will face off against the Buffalo State Bengals on senior night. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm.
