HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening period was tightly contested early, with Oswego generating quality looks and matching Hobart's physical pace. The Statesmen broke through late in the frame, scoring twice in a span of just over three minutes to take a 2–0 lead into the first intermission, including a power-play goal at 17:22.
Hobart extended the margin early in the second period with another power-play tally just 53 seconds in. Oswego responded quickly, as
Josh Simpson put the Lakers on the board at 1:35 of the second, finishing a play set up by
Aidan Cooper and
Matt McQuade to make it 3–1. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Hobart answered with three more goals later in the period to build a 6–1 advantage heading into the final 20 minutes.
The third period remained scoreless, with Oswego continuing to compete defensively and generating chances despite facing one of the nation's top teams.
Brandon Milberg and
Michael Manzi combined for 37 saves in goal for the Lakers, while Oswego went 0-for-3 on the power play and killed three of five Hobart opportunities
