Lakers Get Revenge; Upset #2 Salisbury 10-2

SALISBURY, MD. - The SUNY Oswego Baseball team traveled to Maryland for Spring Break, and were looking for revenge after a 12-2 defeat yesterday against the Salisbury Sea Gulls. They did exactly that, topping Salisbury 10-2

THE BASICS
Oswego: 10 (3-8, 0-0 SUNYAC)
#2 Salisbury: 2 (10-2, 0-0 Atlantic East)
Location: Sea Gull Baseball Stadium | Salisbury, MD

HOW IT HAPPENED

Ryan Mayer kicked things off for the Lakers in the top of the first with a double to right center field. Daniel Winchester followed that up with an RBI-Single to center field, giving the Lakers an early 1-0 lead.

Dylan Moccio got the start on the mound, with just one runner reaching first. The Lakers offense came up empty in the second, and a 2-run homer from Trent Waire would give Salisbury a 2-1 lead through two innings.

Neither team would score again until the top of the fifth, when a pair of walks put Daniel Winchester and Ryan Mayer on base. Harry Uvena followed that up with a single to left field, scoring Mayer, and tying things up at 2 a piece. Brendan Mair would take back the lead for the Lakers with a left field single of his own, scoring Daniel Winchester, and giving Oswego a 3-2 lead through five innings,

In the top of the seventh the Lakers made it back to the top of the order. Daniel Winchester and Ryan Mayer were again walked, leaving runners on first and second with no outs on the board. Harry Uvena singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Mayer and extending Oswego's lead to 4-2.

Still in the seventh, Uvena stole second as Brendan Mair struck out swinging. This put both runners in scoring position for the Lakers. Brogan Olson made it to first on a fielder's choice, but the throw home was too late as Daniel Winchester made it home for a 5-2 lead, with one out and runners on the corners.

Harry Uvena then scored on a passed ball, as Dylan Rosenberg advanced to second. Salisbury finally closed out the inning, but the damage was already done, with the Lakers ahead 6-2.

Oswego would tack on three more runs in the eighth inning. First it was an RBI-single from Harry Uvena, immediately followed up by some trickery. With runners on the corners and one out, Uvena intentionally got himself into a pickle, leaving the track to home plate wide open for Ryan Mayer who successfully stole home. Brendan Mair added insult to injury with an RBI-double off the fence to make it 9-2 Oswego.

In the bottom of the eighth, Oswego was in a bit of a jam with the bases loaded with one out. The defense was able to turn a grounder into a double play, closing out an impressive defensive inning for the Lakers.

In the top of the ninth, Ben Rollison was walked, and successfully stole second. With two outs on the board, an infield pop up looked like it would end the day for Oswego, but an error from Salisbury's shortstop extended the lead to 10-2.

Neither team would score for the remainder of the game, as the Lakers came out on top 10-2.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lakers will travel back to New York, and face the Oneonta Red Dragons on the road this Friday, March 20th at 3:00PM.
