How it Happened

The Lakers wasted no time settling into a rhythm, weathering an early draw control from the Blue Devils behind a clutch save from Alana Iacovissi. That stop proved to be a turning point, as Alexis Hill quickly converted on the other end to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Cassidy Croce followed with another tally to stretch the advantage to two, but the Blue Devils responded with a quick surge of their own, netting back-to-back goals to even the score at 2-2 in the opening quarter. A timely green card on the Blue Devils created an opportunity for Abigail Dicks, who capitalized on the man-up advantage to restore the Lakers' lead at 3-2. Strong defensive stands and continued composure in net from Iacovissi allowed the Lakers to carry that edge through the end of the first.

Momentum continued to swing in the second quarter, as the Blue Devils took advantage of a Lakers penalty to tie the game once again at 3-3. Croce answered almost immediately, finishing a man-up opportunity of her own to put the Lakers back in front. From there, the Lakers began to take control. Hill and Croce each found the back of the net during a decisive two-goal run, extending the lead to 6-3. Despite a steady offensive push from the Blue Devils, Iacovissi stood firm between the pipes, turning away multiple chances to preserve the Lakers' three-goal cushion heading into halftime.

The intensity ramped up in the second half, as the Blue Devils struck first off a Lakers turnover to cut the deficit to 6-4 early in the third. Physical play defined the quarter, with both sides exchanging green cards in a heated conference battle. The Lakers, however, made the most of their opportunities. Aubri Greene broke through late in the quarter to spark another run, and goals from Hill and Gianna Zerrillo followed to give the Lakers a commanding 9-4 lead heading into the final frame.

With momentum firmly in their favor, the Lakers put the game out of reach in the fourth. Hill completed her standout performance with an early goal, and Dicks added another on a man-up chance to push the lead to 11-4. The defense continued to lock down the Blue Devils' attack, creating space for Hill to notch yet another goal midway through the quarter. A late tally from the Blue Devils proved to be little more than a consolation, as the Lakers closed out a dominant 12-5 victory on the road, securing an important conference win.
