HOW IT HAPPENED
Successful off the opening draw control, the Lakers wasted no time in setting up their offense. Scrambling to structure in their defensive end, the Mustangs would suffer an early penalty, giving Oswego the first power play and goal of the game scored by senior Ava Tulimiero. The Lakers would regain possession off the following draw, but would not strike again until the 4:25 mark, when Alexis Hill collected the ball just inside the 25-yard line, running it down to the crease of netminder Aniyah Smith where she would finish on a low-to-low shot. Continuing the trend, first year Abigail Dicks added a third tally to the scoreline with just over a minute remaining in the first quarter. But not long after, Morrisville finally found a way to respond, improving the scoreline to 3-1 heading into the second quarter.
Much like the beginning minutes of the first, Oswego got right to work, gaining immediate offensive positioning and testing Smith with an array of shots early in the 2nd quarter. Remaining consistent, their eagerness would begin to pay off as juniors Milenna Vassallo and Cassidy Croce netted two back-to-back goals, extending Oswego's lead to 5-1 at 9:52. Keeping her foot on the gas, Alexis Hill did not hold back, pocketing a hat trick with a 6th goal at 7:27 and 7th goal just minutes later at 5:01. A green card charged to Morrisville attackman Grace Loadwick would give the Lakers a prime advantage in the closing minutes, on which they would capitalize, improving their lead to 8-1. Not ready to relinquish just yet, the Mustangs managed to find some life in the eleventh hour, collecting a 2nd tally with 2:33 left before halftime. Unphased, the Lakers regained their 7-goal lead on the next play, finishing out the half up 9-2.
Despite their dominant 7-goal advantage, Oswego's effort was uncompromised, attaching a tenth score just 1:20 into the third period, scored by Croce. Unrelenting, the Lakers continued to rack up the bill, finding 3-more goals in the middle minutes. With the clock running, Morrisville worked hard to earn any offense they could, but Oswego stood tall on defense, consistently turning balls over and boxing the Mustangs out on ground balls. First year Madison Wood maintained the Lakers' scoring reign around the 4-minute mark, but a dagger with 0:36 seconds left from Aubri Greene sent Oswego into the final frame carrying a 15-2 lead.
With contributions from 9 different Lakers, three of which being seniors, the Lakers found 4 more goals in the fourth quarter to secure a commanding 19-2 win over the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs. Huge shoutout to senior Alexis Hill for tallying 4 goals and 5 assists in today's contest!
