How it Happened
The Lakers opened up scoring early in the 1st with a goal from
Alexis Hill. A penalty quickly followed on the Lakers putting the Roo's in a man-up situation that led to a goal making it 1-1. The 1st quarter went back and forth with big defensive stops and offensive possessions for both teams. The Lakers got the upper hand following a goal midway through the 1st from
Milena Vassallo making it 2-1. Both teams continued to battle to end the 1st, but it ultimately ended with the Lakers up 1.
To start the 2nd it seemed like all Lakers from here. Scoring opened up with another goal from Vassallo making it 3-1. Some penalties on the Roo's soon followed putting the Lakers in an extra man situation.
Noelle Smith quickly capitalized on this opportunity making it 4-1.
Cassidy Croce tacked on another, putting the Lakers up by 4. The Lakers then proceeded to string three more together with goals by Croce,
Aubri Greene, and
Addison Costello making it 8-1 Lakers to end the 2nd quarter.
With the start of the second half it seemed the Roo's weren't giving up that easily. Some missed offensive possessions by the Lakers allowed the Roo's to put another one in making it 8-2 Lakers. However,
Abigail Dicks didn't let the Roo's gain any momentum by getting on the board with a goal of her own. Another penalty on the Roo's soon followed allowing Dicks to tack on another on the extra man opportunity. This made it 10-2 Lakers. Another goal from Greene late in the 3rd soon followed, ending the quarter 11-2.
The Lakers didn't take their foot off the gas in the 4th. Some big defensive stops and saves from
Sophia Diaz kept the Lakers with a strong lead. This eventually led to Greene getting on the board yet again with a big momentum man-down goal making it 12-2 Lakers. Although the Roo's continued to battle, some turnovers and failed clears kept them out of the Lakers zone. Frustrations for the Roo's caused a penalty and allowed
Ava Gerardi to capitalize on the extra-man opportunity making it 13-2 Lakers. The Lakers fought hard on the road and beat another conference opponent keeping them undefeated in the SUNYAC.
