How It Happened
The Lakers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as
Ethan McConnell netted the game's first goal just under a minute into the contest. After Alfred briefly tied the game at 1–1, Oswego responded with a strong offensive surge.
Nick Spinner,
Doryn Leclair, and
Trey Jones each found the back of the net to cap a three-goal run that gave the Lakers a 4–1 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
Oswego continued to control the pace in the second quarter.
Hayden Coney extended the lead early before McConnell added his second goal of the game off an assist from Jones. Despite a pair of Alfred goals cutting into the margin, the Lakers entered halftime ahead 6–3.
The teams traded momentum throughout the third period, but Oswego maintained control. Coney recorded his second goal of the afternoon and
Logan Postel later finished off a feed from
Emmet Starowicz to push the Lakers' lead to 8–4. Alfred added a late man-up goal, trimming the deficit to 8–5 heading into the final quarter.
Trey Jones delivered a key moment early in the fourth, scoring on a man-up opportunity to stretch the lead to four. Alfred refused to go away, however, putting together a three-goal run midway through the quarter to close the gap to just one at 10–9 with three minutes remaining. Coney provided the insurance the Lakers needed, completing his hat trick with just over a minute left to seal the 11–9 victory. In net,
Seamus Hand made 14 saves to earn the victory for the Lakers.
