Oswego, NY – On Wednesday afternoon, the defending Empire 8 Champion Lakers held their spring opener in the Romney Field House against conference foe, Nazareth University.

How It Happened
The Golden Flyers grabbed the early edge with a narrow win at first doubles, as Max Funiciello and Pierre Ntonga slipped past
Anthony Marcano and
Cole Lyons, 7-6. Oswego quickly responded in the other two doubles flights, with
Tyler Yhun and
Colin Byer securing a 6-4 win at second doubles, followed by Jose Miguel Garcia and
Connor Tutor matching that scoreline at third doubles to give the Lakers a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
From there, Oswego seized full momentum.
Cole Lyons led the charge with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles, setting the tone for a dominant stretch.
Colin Byer followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the third spot, while Jose Miguel Garcia continued the trend with a 6-1, 6-3 decision at fourth singles.
Tyler Yhun added another emphatic performance at fifth singles, cruising 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Lakers.
Nazareth picked up its second point at first singles, where Funiciello defeated Marcano in straight sets, and also battled to a three-set win at sixth singles. However, the depth and consistency of Oswego's lineup proved too much to overcome.
