How It Happened
Oswego found early momentum in doubles play, securing the point behind a pair of gritty performances. The duo of
Tyler Yhun and
Colin Byer delivered a steady 6-4 win at second doubles, while Jose Miguel Garcia and
Connor Tutor battled through a tiebreak to claim a 7-6 (7-4) victory at third doubles, giving the Lakers a strong start heading into singles action.
In singles, the Lakers picked up their lone point at the No. 2 position, where
Cole Lyons turned in a composed performance, defeating Will Chubb in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Lyons controlled the tempo throughout, using consistent baseline play to keep Oswego within striking distance.
Despite the early edge, St. John Fisher responded with depth across the lineup. The Cardinals claimed victories in five of the six singles matches, including a pair of tightly contested tiebreak wins at third singles that helped swing the momentum. Oswego's
Colin Byer pushed his opponent to the brink in a pair of close sets but came up just short in both tiebreaks.
