Alfred, N.Y. — A tough road test proved challenging for Oswego on Saturday afternoon, as the Lakers were swept by Alfred University, 7-0, in Empire 8 action.
Basics
Oswego: 0 (2-4, 2-2 Empire 8)
Alfred: 7 (8-4, 3-1 Empire 8)
How it Happened
Despite the final scoreline, Oswego showed flashes of competitiveness—particularly in doubles play—but couldn't sustain momentum against a strong Alfred squad that improved to 8-4 overall.
The Lakers' highlight came at doubles, where the pairing of Miguel Garcia and
Connor Tutor delivered a 6-3 victory, giving Oswego an early spark. However, Alfred secured the doubles point by taking the top two flights, putting the Lakers in an early hole heading into singles.
In singles action, Oswego battled but struggled to break through.
Cole Lyons and
Colin Byer each faced stiff competition at the top of the lineup, falling in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Miguel Garcia remained competitive at third singles, pushing his opening set to 7-5 before ultimately dropping the match in two sets.
Tyler Yhun,
Cole Fleming, and
Duncan Baker rounded out the lineup for the Lakers, but Alfred's depth proved decisive, as the hosts swept all six singles matches to seal the team victory.
